A busy weekend

Last weekend this is all we did. Peaches and wood. My parents came up to help us and it was awesome having them here.

My dad on his way up stopped in Utah to grab some peaches. Some... as in 8 boxes. We spent two full days canning and freezing them and ended up with 100 Quarts!

For the two days we were doing peaches my Dad and Jeremy went out for some wood. They got about 3 1/2 cords.... we need about 5 more for the winter... That's a lot of wood! Hopefully Jeremy can get a truck soon and fine someone to help him get more.

Here they are after a hard day of work. Jeremy had to wear his high-water pants so he didn't ruin his others.... Good thing since he put a good rip in them. :) He is showing them off.

I will be honest. I have never been busier!

My garden has given me daily tasks! Here is what this week has looked like....

Monday: Pick green beans (2-3 hours?), snap green beans (another couple hours), bottle green beans (6 hours) It was only me so there were breaks to take care of EmmaLee.
(there is also bacon and onions in with the green beans;)

Tuesday: Pick apples (30 min. with Jeremy's help) and make apple sauce (5 hours with the neighbors help), clean up kitchen after (1 hour cleaning).

The middle row: (the last couple week's tasks) huckleberry raspberry jam, raspberry jam, Cherry pie filling and bottled huckleberries. Huckleberries are only found in the mountains so we made a couple trips to pick them. They are like gold here and sell for up to $90 a gallon.
Wednesday: Make double chocolate zucchini cake (1 hour) (finished editing a wedding, and made a trip to Idaho Falls)

Thursday: Pick 3 rows of corn. Pick, cut, cook, and freeze broccoli. Water the gardens.


Tomorrow's Tasks: Husk all the corn, boil the corn, cut it off the cob, freeze it. :) Clean up a messy kitchen.


Saturdays Tasks: Pick more green beans, bottle green beans, make pickles with cucumbers, bottle dilly beans. Clean up a messy kitchen.

Sunday's Task: RELAX!

Everyday Joys

Between homework and school Jeremy really doesn't get to spend much time with Emma. I feel like he gets maybe 5 min. here and there. He went outside to spend some time with her and I came out to see this. It's a good thing that we have the best land lords in the world. I'm sure they didn't mind. Emma loved the big truck. (not really sure what it is exactly)



She noticed where the keys go and got excited!


I took a little walk to the garden. Everything grows so fast here!

I'm so proud of myself!

It use to be that... I would NOT TOUCH a mouse trap. Jeremy had to do all the mouse hunting because our traps USE to look like this: (the kind that you are afraid are going to snap your fingers off when trying to set them, and that it disgusts you to have to pry the mouse out...)

NOW they look like this:

I'm proud of myself because tonight I caught TWO mice within ten min. (without the hubby's help) making our total 7 since moving in! My trick is this trap and peanut butter! I like that it kills them instantly. No tails or feet and I like it because you use it like a hair clip... open by pinching the ends, it stays open, mouse goes for a snack, mouse gets a snap, I pick it up (not having to touch any part of the mouse), pinch it open again and the mouse goes straight in the trash. Easy as cake! So for those of you with mice problems... Here's your solution.

P.S. I am in no way complaining because the farm is totally worth all the mice! I love it here :) and I hope I'm not loosing blog readers because of this post! Comment so I know I'm not going to loose you ;)

Stand by this tree and that's all you will hear. There are tons of bees but that's ok because the blossoms are beautiful! :) These pictures are cropped into the bees because there was no way I was going to get that close. :)

Aren't they ugly!? So ugly that they are cute!? I've seen this nest before but had no idea that their were baby birds in it!! (I of course was too short to see in...) I had to get a step stool to take pictures.
The nest is on top of where the hose hangs... I'm going to need that hose. I hope these little guys grow fast!

WHAT IS THAT SMELL!??

The last couple days I have been thinking man my house really STINKS! Is it just me?? I've been smelling around everywhere trying to figure it out. and I just couldn't figure it out. I cleaned, took out all the trash, ran the garbage disposal, mopped, checked inside the fridge, checked the dirty laundry.... and then opened the doors to air out the house...
Well today I FINALLY figured it out!
When we first moved in we saw a couple mice in the house, we set some traps caught two and haven't seen any since. Well, my hubby left one up behind the fridge (so Emma wouldn't find it and get snapped) and since we thought all the mice were gone and forgot about the trap....... Bingo! There is the smell. There is a dead mouse behind my fridge ROTTING! (I'm so sorry I didn't post pictures to go along with my story)

As soon as my hubby wakes up from his nap.... The man who SET the trap is going to TAKE CARE of the trap! Yuck Yuck Yuck.

Saturdays are a special day. It's the day that we do all the deep cleaning, and yard work so that Sunday we can relax. Since it's warming up we finished planting our garden. Emma LOVES to put the seeds in the holes. For a while she just sat down and planted the unions... her way. We will see if we find any random onions growing in places they shouldn't be.

It's fun to see flowers popping up all over. Everyday new flowers are showing up around our house. I can't wait until I can start planting some more.

Ok I have been slacking. We still don't have internet and I've been a little sick the past few days so I hadn't felt up to going into town to post. I thought I would give you all another taste of the farm. here is Jeremy and Emma plowing our garden. Our landlord is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. It was so nice of him to let us use his tractor!

I can't tell you how full my heart is living here in Idaho. Although Jeremy and I are both from the city our hearts are in the country. I love this kind of living. I love how peaceful and quiet it is. I can snuggle up to Jeremy on the couch and read a book and that is the life!!!
I love being able to look out my kitchen window and see the cows and birds.

We love watching the pheasants out or living room window.

The house was built in the early nineteen hundreds and I LOVE the old door nob on our back door.

I love that we have a wood stove. It will be nice in the winter when the temperature is down in the negatives.


Yard work was never a chore growing up and I was never really asked to do it but often I would go outside and play in the dirt, trim the trees, mow the lawns (and the neighbors) just for fun. I love being outside and doing yard work. I'm so happy that I have LOTS of yard work to do now. While my Dad was here he and Jeremy cut back some of the fruit trees and we piled up the wood for the winter.
Thanks Deek for giving EmmaLee the wagon! We have been enjoying it too!


I can't wait to see our entry way in the summer.


and I love the cows! Especially the baby ones!!!
