I want to discourage something that I have seen many times on peoples blogs and that is pictures of their children without clothing. Kids running down the street without clothes, bathtub images, taking their diaper off.... If you wouldn't be ok with someone stealing it don't post it.
It's something you don't think about because everyone has those pictures of their kids right? I just don't feel that it is appropriate for the internet. Once your pictures are posted online to your blog they are into the hands of every person with a computer who can do a google search. You never know what kind of people could possibly steal those pictures for things that are beyond wrong.
Porn on the Web
Affecting Children
- 100,000 websites offer illegal child pornography1
- Child pornography generates $3 billion annually1
100,000 sites offering illegal child pornography? Six years ago? I'm definitely not going to be going to those sites to check and make sure my images haven't been stolen and used and really I think you would be outside your mind to try!
I haven't been perfect but it's something I have been thinking about a lot lately. No matter what age they are they are individuals and deserve the same respect and privacy that we would want for ourselves. Babies as well. For that reason I'm completely against Anne Geddes recent work involving naked babies with naked women and men. There is a fine line and her work I believe has crossed it. Where will the line be drawn? Do we count it as child pornography at the age of 1? 2? 5?
I hope that I haven't offended anyone but I did want to warn parents to be careful in the images they post of their children. Spread the word. Most often it only happens because parents aren't aware of the dangers. So and so did it so it must be ok... put yourself in your children's shoes and then ask yourself.
P.S. I am not pointing fingers in anyway and I am not without blame. I have taken photographs that might not have been appropriate but after some thought on it I have decided to never do it again. It really has become a new trend in the world and I would rather not follow it.
